As previously noted, Talley and i went berry picking last weekend. This is a quick post to share a drink we made up that uses berries and has served us well in our record-breaking heat wave. It’s pretty simple — raspberries, watermelon juice and basil syrup (also noted previously is our massive basil crop… basil syrup was a good excuse to get some of that used up… I’m not asking for pity, too much basil is a hardship I am willing to suffer).
Puree of Raspberries and Watermelon
Combine sugar and water in equal parts (about ¾ cup each), add a handful of fresh basil leaves, bring just to a simmer, then remove from heat, cover and let sit for about 10-15 minutes, strain and cool.
1 cup watermelon juice
1 cup raspberries (frozen work fine if not better)
1/4 cup basil syrup
Combine watermelon juice and berries in blender and puree. Blend in syrup. Serve cold.
